The Pendleton Clash at the Border starts tonight. Fifty seven teams from Oregon, Washington and Idaho will compete in six divisions. Here is a preview of several of the nine Pendleton-area teams hoping to play in the championship round on Sunday:
Mission for the Clash/Cayuse Killaz Classification: 6th grade boys This first-year team is composed of community members of the Umatilla Indian Reservation who have played with and against each other in the Pendleton Youth Basketball Association for several years. The team hopes to play in more tournaments this year and continue together in succeeding years. |
Pendleton Quiznos Classification: 5th grade boys (competing in 6th grade division) Most of the team is entering their third year of playing together. In their last two tournament appearances, Quiznos grabbed a first and second place finish. |
Pendleton Bucks Classification: 7th grade boys Sunridge Middle School's 7th grade "Pendleton A" team supplies the players for this group. Last year the team won the Pepsi Shootout in La Grande and they're looking forward to making some noise in what will be their second tournament of the season. |
Pendleton Lil' Bucks Classification: 5th grade girls (competing in 6th grade division) These girls are playing in their first tournament and are eager to gain experience while having some fun along the way. |
Pendleton Classification: 8th grade boys The team consists of 8th grade competitive players. |
